Why PEAKxSchool?

Active movement through the world teaches kids critical skills they require to build resilience and be effective critical decision makers.

Learn more about why we value Outdoor, Experiential, and Ecological Education (OE3) and how we Balance Digital and Ecological Literacy for student success and wellness in the 21st-century.

PEAKxSchool offers the flexibility, expertise, and challenges that can foster growth mindsets and nurture a deep enjoyment of learning.  We believe this helps our students develop well-rounded skill sets that will prepare them for academic and personal success.

What We Offer.

PEAKxSchool uses an experiential learning model to engage and immerse students in their learning.  We use haptic and kinesthetic approaches to help our students put theoretical lessons into practice.  We appreciate that learning is most meaningful when it is active, relevant, and fun.

Our student-centered approach encourages individualization, differentiation, and personalization of learning, whether it be as support for their academic subjects, as an extracurricular activity, or a self-motivated drive to learn new skills in wondrous places.

PEAKxSchool offers a variety of courses and training as well as supplemental classes, trips, and workshops that support academic classes across all ages and abilities.

“If you want kids to learn about geography, get some friends together, grab a map, go climb a mountain, and use trigonometry to measure out and draw contour lines on the rock. It transforms abstract ideas into very concrete understanding and becomes a lesson they will not soon forget. This is how people, especially youth, learn effectively and so it is how we should be teaching.”
W. Bradley Gooderham, Lead Educator - PEAKxSchool

Where did the name PEAKxSchool originate?

Praxis. Eudaimonia. Arete. Kairos.

These classical principles applied to, in, and for the 21st-century is what PEAKxSchool is all about.

Praxis describes a process by which a theory, lesson, idea, or skill is enacted, practices, applied, or realized. Aristotle further refined this to its components; ethics, economics, and politics.

Eudaimonia refers the the happiness that results from a life well-lived, that is to say, the attainment of holistic well-being and virtue.

Arete is a term that refers to the cultivation of excellence of any kind. It is used to describe the path that one takes as they seek their highest potential.

Kairos is defined as an opportune or timely moment to present an idea, opinion, or petition.

“What is the ‘x’ for?”, you may wonder.

It represents EXperiential, EXceptional, EXhilarating, EXpressive, EXpansive.

It also is used to capture the notion of ‘ex-school’, as in ‘away from‘, ‘out of‘, and ‘moving forth from‘ dated assumptions about what education is and is not.  Many in the 21st-century movement have realized that the industrial model and objectives of 20th-century education are outdated and we must ‘unlearn’ many of those practices and pedagogies.
